Synopsis

development

Floaters was the brain-child of Joe Roberts and Karl Poyzer who wanted a way to continue making comedy work during the first covid lockdown. Understanding their limitations with regard to character animation, Floaters became a perfect outlet making fun and entertaining work while stuck in their apartments.

approach

Developing Floaters was both challenging and rewarding. Learning animation from scratch came with both pros and cons but ultimately everything came together in a more cohesive and entertaining way than we expected. While we were working fully remotely, we had to learn a lot about that style of work but found that while being in the same room might be preferable, we were able to work in a focused way via the internet too!

Floaters enjoyed a success that we had not been expecting. This little test animation grew into something bigger than we’d hoped and ultimately made a huge difference in our lives. With over a million hits over multiple platforms as well as multiple features on online publications including Vimeo, Short of the Week and The Verge, this film really opened the doors of animation to us as a team.
